Sorry for the late response, but I was out of town for work. It's not an easy situation and I am not sure if I can be of some help.  Your profile says Morris, IL so it would be even difficult for me to deliver needed items.  Anyway, here is what I suggest: first if you do not have a place to stay, you should go to an emergency shelter (in the West Burbs of Chicago, I would reccomend West Suburban Pads).  The reason is that, in addition to providing a place for the night, you would be assigned a counsuler right away that would help you find a place and a job.  They are really great and have helped lots of families in this transition.  I would be willing to help you if you actively worked with them and you were serious about finding a job.  I could help with food, clothes, and transportation until you are completely independent.  But, in your condition, they are the starting point.  It's up to you to decide what to do.  Stay in touch. I would agree with you, except that they probably don't want any liability issues. If someone on the street asks me for food or clothes or other items, I will never say no. If it's cash, I am more reluctant. I know that it's a good deed, but that cash would be donated to the Night Ministry (a shelter based here in Chicago). Anyway...one day I will be able to make the difference in someone's life.

I tried...actually I tried churches and some schools but without success. Schools are not really interested in renting out their facilities, even for a single day. I was thinking of renting something, but I am not sure that I can afford 600-700 dollars a month (+ bills). At this point, I'd rather walk the streets, find people who need help, and help then one at the time. But you can see the problem with that....you never know who is in real need, and who is just taking advantage of the situation. I am happy if I can spend money to help the nep the needy, but I don't want to waste it.
